Circuit Breaker - AC Generator

Circuit Breaker - AC Generator

Circuit Breaker - AC Generator

(OP)
On a portable AC generator, two individual 120V windings are feeding the two legs of a four prong (L14-30R) receptacle. Does a single circuit breaker on the neutral leg of the circuit provide the same protection as a circuit breaker on the hot legs? The neutral leg consists of the connected sides of the generator windings which feed the neutral side of the receptacle. Thanks.

RE: Circuit Breaker - AC Generator

The National Electrical code does not permit the use of a circuit breaker in the grounded (neutral) conductor unless it it a multipole breaker that also opens the ungrounded conductors.

Think about it... You could have a severe over loading device plugged into that outlet that used the lines and no neutral... How would a neutral breaker prevent a melt down?
