Rotary Steerable System

Rotary Steerable System

(OP)
Hello, my name is Philipp and I am studying Petroleum Engineering at the Mining University in Leoben (Austria). In the Lecture “Special Problems in Drilling Engineering” I have to give a presentation about the topic “High-speed rotary steerable systems with high-power drilling motors” according to a drilling report by Jon Ruszka on a WorldOil.com Magazine. The task is also to describe the newest RSS-developments through the last two years. Therefore my question to you is, if anybody can give me some practical experiences on these topics, especially on the combination of the RSS with high-power drilling motors.
Thanks.

RE: Rotary Steerable System

I have not read the drilling report by Jon RUszka. Can you send me the link then I can have an idea.
Some issues related to high speed can be:
(i) vibration
(ii) safety
(iii) transfer cutting - guess this is the most important
and (iv) the cost :)

RE: Rotary Steerable System

I have information on RSS with motor above. I have ran motors several times on the back of the PathMaker RSS with great success.

Are you still looking for information for your presentation?

RE: Rotary Steerable System

For what its worth : Check with a representative from Sperry Sun ( haliburton co. now) , and all the other "new" directional drilling service companies.

Thanks a lot for your replies! I got enough information from service companies and so the presentation was fine!
