Structural Software

(OP)
Dear All!

What are the average percentage of time of total time for Modelling and Analysing a typical steel structure in any structural software (like Stad Pro or SAP) you use?

Example .....Modelling 50% and analysing 50%

This is just for an information.

thanks

RE: Structural Software

STAADPro 2004

Modelling 99.9%  Analysis 0.1%

RE: Structural Software

I use RISA-3D.  I can input a model, on average, in 5 to 10 minutes (I'm talking a 2D frame here, not an entire building).  I will spend about 10 to 20 minutes analyzing the results (I don't trust the program to tell me if a member is okay or not, because there are so many variables to consider).  So I would say modelling 33% and analyzing 67%.

RE: Structural Software

I just spent the last 4 weeks modelling a complicated 3D junction structure that has two cylindrical tanks (one inside the other) with hydrostatic and hydrodynamic loads.  It took me about 2 days to analyze the output.

RE: Structural Software

If you include analyzing the output, I would change my STAAD Pro 2004 figures to

Modelling 75%
Computer Analysis 0.1% A
nalyzing the output 24.9%

RE: Structural Software

Do you guys use the built in code checking and would you consider this part of it modeling or analyzing?  I don't do enough of this to be real productive but I do the modeling with a frame program (Multiframe) and do the code checking with a spreadsheet, which I would call analyzing.  My time is in the range of 50/50 to 1/3 modeling and 2/3 analyzing depending on how long it takes to get something to work out right.
