problem with open file/insert componet dialog box

problem with open file/insert componet dialog box

problem with open file/insert componet dialog box

(OP)
When I open a file or insert a component the following dialog box (the one where you select which component to open or insert) never displays the files in an alphabetical or numerical order anymore. I have to right click and arrange icons by name. It is just through SW when I navigate to the file locations on our sever through "my computer" they are displayed in an alphabetical and numerical order. Is there possibly a setting I have unchecked? Thanks.

Try clicking the top right icon and choosing "Details."  Then click on the "Name" bar until you get the alphabetical order you need.

RE: problem with open file/insert componet dialog box

I think this is controlled by windows and not SW. Get your Windows to save this type of order "apply to all folders" under FOlder options. Maybe that will fix the issue.

SW only lists the files per the windows settings.

RE: problem with open file/insert componet dialog box

I think this is a SW thing, and not Windows thing.  Autocad 2002, Word, Excel, and Photoshop remember the settings in the "Open" dialog box, but SW doesn't.  My little gripe is that I prefer to show the files in the open box from newest to oldest.  I always have to take the (little but annoying) extra step of picking "Details" then "Date Modified".

Each windows program has to program in this functionality. Office used to behave the same way a few versions back.

Looking at the Solidworks forum under interface, it looks like this has been addressed in 2007.

Yes I believe most definatly it's a SW thing as I said files/folders are displayed the way I want it if I navigate out of SW through "my computer".

It's only seemed to happen just recently. We're switching to a new server BUT out of 4 SW seats I'm the only one to see this problem.  I've contacted my VAR but no response yet.   I'm hoping when we go to SP 2.1 that will fix the problem.
