Reference Plane from Drawing?

Reference Plane from Drawing?

Reference Plane from Drawing?

(OP)
Hello all,  I was told that I could reference a plane in my drawing from the product file.

What I want to do is when I create a detail view I want the view to follow the part if the product or part file is revised.  If I insert a plane in the center of a hole for example in the product or part file how can I link the detail view with the plane?

Thanks!

RE: Reference Plane from Drawing?

Select the plane as refernce when creating the view.

But if the plane rotates the view will not update....

Thanks Akesson for your reply, but could you go a little more indepth with the answer?  When I select the "Detail View" command how do I select the plane in my "product" file for reference?

Thanks again!

RE: Reference Plane from Drawing?

Select Window\Tile Vertically

Activate Drawing window.
Select "Detail view" icon
Select the plane that you would like to use as "Reference" plane in the "product" window.

Hello Akesson, Thanks for your help, but I am still having problems with this application.  I have both the product and drawing side by side so I can see both of them.  I activate the drawing window and select the "Detail view" command, then I go over to my product window and select the plane I want to reference but when I go back to my drawing window the command is not active anymore.

Should I be holding down another key (shift, Ctrl?) when swtiching between windows?

Any detailed steps are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

RE: Reference Plane from Drawing?

Actually, I suspect the problem is with the Detail View.  A Detail View, by definition, has the same background plane as the originating view.  Perhaps you should try a different view type.
