Gear Reducer can be cross over HUB CITY's

(OP)
Hi, Fellows,

We want to switch HUB CITY's Gear Reducer "Model 134" to some others. But it has to be cross over, because we don't want to change our mounting positions etc. Any suggection is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Carrie

You should call your local "power transmission products distributors".  In my area they are companies like Motion Industries, Kaman Industrial, others.  Ask them.  What they will do is call the gearmotor manufacturers like SEW-Eurodrive, Dodge, Falk, Nord, etc., and see if a cross-over is available.

Most likely you will NOT get an exact replacement, but will require drilling new mounting holes or fabricating a simple adapter plate.

Before you call, get all of your data from the reducer's nameplate:  input horsepower, voltage, shaft size, ratio, output speed, etc.  Keyway configuration, mounting position, etc. would be useful to know, also.  Gearmotor manufacturers will usually do a custom fab for a price if necessary.

Why do you want to replace the Hub city box? If it fails too quickly, it may be a size issue (too small) which an identical size box may not be able to improve.

I believe the 134 is a right angle worm gear reducer.

Dodge "quantis" makes a similar model "tigear" box, but I don't think they make one as small as the 134.

Electragear also makes a small worm-box with lots of options.

Most of the manufacturers have drawings available online so you can compare.

I'm sure there are many many more out there, but these are the guys I use.

Thank you so much. The product itself is good. We have been using it for more than 10 years. But recently the delivery is too bad.

RE: Gear Reducer can be cross over HUB CITY's

There are several companies the make worm gear boxes of that type.  A few are Dodge, Ohio Gear, Electra, Boston, Morse, Winsmith, Browning, Textron and Perfection.  Some of the companies may have merged or just be private label.  You should be able to find a drop in from a couple of these but you will have to give the full information on the box.  The 134 has several configurations and accessories.

If you decide to go with a helical bevel or hypoid gear box you would probably be able to use a smaller motor if you have a 40:1 or higher ratio.  These type boxes will easily back drive at a 60:1 ratio so if you need the braking effect of a worm forget it.  These boxes will last much longer than a worm box but will probably not be a drop in.  A few of the companies making them are Stober, SEW, Brother, Nord and Falk.

Thanks again, folks. We have been tried SEW and Nord. They are not exactely interchangable. I just went to Boston's website. It looks close. I will contact the supplier for more info. Thank you all.

These are all MOD boxes, and are all designed as clones to Boston's original design. Almost all manufacturer's gearboxes will drop in place. For best delivery on these units, look in the Grainger catalog.
There are many universal fit reducers
Boston
Emerson
Grove
Winsmith
Ohio Gearmany imports too
