help set up a laptop
(OP)
I AM TRYING TO SET UP A NEW LAP TOP WITH RS LOGIX 5 AND RS LOGIX 5000 SINCE OUR OLD LAPTOP AT WORK IS ON ITS LAST LEGS
I have installed the software and configured the drivers in rs linx so that the comms card appear on the left hand side of the screen.
on the old laptop the various allen bradley processors that we go on line to show up either in the sub menus or on the right hand side of the screen. my question is does this list of processors have to be preconfigured offline in order to go online to them or will the rslinx identify any processors on the dh when i use who active? provided the necessary ladder files are installed.
Also i am using an allen bradley 1784pcmk card i was hoping just configuring the drivers would be enough to get this running but in the hardware manual it talks about using memmory managment software with win 3.1 and 95 but not nt. i am using 98 so is this neccessary
thanks
dick

RE: help set up a laptop
You shouldn't need anything else. If you configure your RSLinx properly you will see the PLC node in "Who Active".
Provided that your DH nodes are configured on your network (i.e. no duplicates) you should be able to see them in RSLinx.
I'm not sure what memmory management software is...I was not around much for Win 95, yet alone Win 3.1...lol
From the last DH+ application I did (3 years ago), I don't remember anything like that.
So...
-Check your nodes...if you are setting up your laptop...I'm sure this is fine.
-Configure in RSLinx
-Search for the Node you want to go online with/upload/download
-You should be fine
RE: help set up a laptop
If you really need Win98 for some reason, you will also need to install Windows 2000, (dual boot setup) in order to run Logix5000.
I think Logix5000 will also run on XP, but do NOT use SP2, if you do use XP.
As far as Linx is concerned, what snagit says is true. "Who Active" should recognize any devices connected, assuming that you have configured the required drivers correctly. I believe it is possible to save an existing RSLinx configuration. I know this option is available when installing new versions, so you should be able to save your existing configuration and then import it on the new PC... I think.
