Pounding Effect Between Adjacent Buildings

Pounding Effect Between Adjacent Buildings

Pounding Effect Between Adjacent Buildings

(OP)
I am investigating the following:
2 adjacent buildings aready constructed, gap between them is 60mm. One is a 38 story R.C structure, the other a 7 story steel structure.
The total drift at 7th floor level for both buildings combined, calculated using ETABS, due to seismic loads is around 100mm.
Anyway to calculate the pounding forces between the 2 buildings in case of earthquake?

RE: Pounding Effect Between Adjacent Buildings

You would have to place compression only nonlinear gap elements between the two buildings and run a time-history type analysis between the two.  SAP is your best bet for this kind of work.
