Extruded wall on sheetmetal

Extruded wall on sheetmetal

Extruded wall on sheetmetal

(OP)
I wanted to extrude a wall onto a sheetmetal part.  But there was nothing asking me to select an attachment edge.  All I was prompted for was the sketching plane and horizontal reference.  I was able to go ahead and create the sketch but when I tried to complete the feature it said the feature was completely outside the part (or something like that).

What method is best used if you want to extrude a wall onto a sheetmetal part?  Is it be better to do a sweep?

Thanks in advance.
SrG.

RE: Extruded wall on sheetmetal

The Flange Wall option is the equivalent to an extruded wall now, I believe. When choosing the profile, indicate that you want a User Defined profile, and sketch that in.

Alternately, you can create the extruded wall as you did (I believe it was an Unattached Extruded wall that you made), and then use the Merge Wall tool to merge it to the rest of the part.

RE: Extruded wall on sheetmetal

It sounds like you are trying to make a SOLID EXTRUDED WALL, which does not require an attachment edge. Is this what you need?

Such a wall can only have the same thickness as your sheetmetal wall, you have no control over it's depth. Plus, this wall is constructed on the Green or White sides, not along the side edges.

Let me know and I can give you more info.

Thanks guys,
The flange answer is the right one.  I ended up doing an "S" flange though I had to customize it with the sketch button.

Thanks again,
SrG.
