hide/show function of singular parts

hide/show function of singular parts

hide/show function of singular parts

(OP)
Basically, I was wondering if this is a bug (probably not),
and, if not what can I do about it?

Assemblies created in 2006 are OK,

Assemblies created in 2005 then opened in 2006 - 'HIDE' does not work (SHOW does)

[HIDE works on sub-ass'ys]

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

Which service pack of 2006 are you using?

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

(OP)
2.0

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

1)  Did you update from 2005 to 2006, or did you uninstall 2005 first?

2)  If you uninstalled 2005 first, try doing a repair on your 2006 install, then see if you have the same issue.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

I had the same problem ..hide and rebuild ..it goes away.

hisrik - that's not working - it doesn't even give me the option to 'HIDE' only 'SHOW'

PDMAdmin - that didn't work either.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

Are you sure you don't just need to go into customize menu?

When you right click on the solid body in the feature manager tree go down to customize menu and see if you have the option to select the HIDE box.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

Nah, good suggestion though, rfus, that's exactly what I'm thinking - it's something simple.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

I am using SP 2.0 too. Do not have that problem. Anyways try clicking "hide" and CNTL + Q

hisrik - ctrl-Q - that's a good tip - had forgotten, that's forced re-draw, but I'm unsure what you mean by "hide"

I can RT-click in the feature manager tree, and 'show' is an option, but no 'hide.'  I go to the VIEW menu, and 'hide all types' is all I see.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

If you have tried Customize menu and you don't see the option there, then you will probably need to do a Modify on your install. Because sounds to me like your install is fouled up.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

Nice try - not a bad answer, but I re-installed it last week.

(By the way, I've figured out an unacceptable solution, and that is, if I click on the part in the feature manager tree, then go up to 'EDIT' pull-down menu, I can hide the part, but why won't it hide by right clicking, and selecting Hide Part.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

Just because you reinstalled does mean anything. WHen you installed it could have been a bad install and that is why you need to try the modify.

Also when you did the new install did you clean out the registry?

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

You cannot view "hide" until you the part is "shown". You cannot "show" a part until the part is "hidden".

So that means if the body is hidden you will only see the "Show" option. If that part is "Shown" then you will only see "Hide".

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

SBaugh - I get that.  (What you said most recently)

But after a little monkeying around, I've determined that the problem may be specific to the file/corrupt (that's a catch-all for those IT experts out there).

So is it my version of 2006?  I don't think so, however it may be that a part created in 2005 - has these hide/show problems.  Is that a proper suggestion?

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

Nella,

What's you're catch-all phrase when you can't figure something out?  I'm curious

My catch-all as Mech. Eng.-hmm - well it sort of depends where I am, as a contract engineer, I try to adopt the current phrase of the engineers I'm working with.  (The key is to blame it on some other entity, without giving another individual the blame.  I suppose you could blame it on an entire department as long as there are loads of people in that department - yet still not a good idea.)  But, again, as mechanical engineer, I'd rather assume the blame myself.  (but ultimately figure out a solution.)

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

How did you come to the conclusion that the is file corrupted?

I have files moved into SW06 from SW05 & SW04. I have not seen this with any of my files.

I tested this on my part and I don't see Hide if the part is hidden.

How can you be completely sure that the install went flawless?

You can't be, even if you took all the necessary precautions. If you have not learned by now, Computers have a mind of their own and will work the way they want to work. If you cannot see  a particular menu, then in 95% of all cases this is an install issue or a corrupt registry file within SW Reg setting.

If you disagree with me and all the above, then contact your VAR and have them diagnose the issue. Because I don't think any of us can help you.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing.  (And I do plan to re-install SW later today, while monitoring my IT-guy).  My VAR's stumped, too, by the way.

RE: hide/show function of singular parts

SolidWorks has an open issue with their development team on this.  It's not consistent and as of yet no way to "fix" the problem has been found.  One way of hiding the component if necessary is to use RMB and component properties and there is a check box for "hide component".  Other than that we'll be waiting for a service pack.
