how to create a drawing of several parts with In context features

how to create a drawing of several parts with In context features

how to create a drawing of several parts with In context features

(OP)
How can I create a detailed drawing of a part model that has in-context features from an assembly that contains many different part models?
This is what I think I have to do! In my assembly I create several display states where I simply hide other parts so only a single part is in view at a time. Then I insert several copies of the entire in-context assembly into one drawing and select the appropriate display states for each. This allows me to spread the individual models out for detailing as if they were not mated in the assembly, is this the wrong approach? Maybe there is a better way
thanks,
Tom..

RE: how to create a drawing of several parts with In context features

Tom,
I happen to be working on a similar project.
What I have done is place and assembly view w/ bom on the same sheet as some of the necessary modification views, i.e., machining etc.

I open the individual parts and insert views that way.
It is my preference to remove any and all in contexting prior.

I would think that if you can represent the detail by openening the individual files, this would be the way to go.

I have no standard limiting me to only including assemblies on a sheet.

Please post more info if this doesn't help.
Maybe I haven't got the picture yet.

At some point you just have to shoot the engineer and build the dang thing.

There are reasons in this case where in context features seems to work best. I have several plates in the assembly where I need the flexibility to change their lengths (make some shorter and some longer), but the assembly has a hole pattern like rungs in a ladder that need to remain consistent throughout the length of the assembly. If I put the holes in at the part model stage then as I change lengths my hole pattern may be compromised as an assembly.

If the parts do not carry the in-context detail to the drawing, then I might try what you have suggested.
I have done similar things with configurations where it didn't matter about incontexting.  I have yet to experience the depth of top down building that you have.
I will step down and let the next person with experience in this area reply.
Hope you find a solution.

Maybe there is a clever way to use skeleton planes and equations to insure the start position of each pattern at the part level will be adjusted properly to maintain a consistent lead for all the hole patterns at the assembly level.
