Looking for Design Tool to BS 5268-2:2002

Looking for Design Tool to BS 5268-2:2002

(OP)
Good afternoon folks. I come from a cold rolled steel background and have now seen the light and converted to Timber.

Can anyone reccomend or send me a link to some design software for checking studs to BS 5268 - 2:2002 or preferably a good design guide with worked examples?

Any and all help greatfully received,

Thanks

Steve

RE: Looking for Design Tool to BS 5268-2:2002

I would suggest speaking to TRADA (Timber research and development association). They have a number of publications relating to timber design.  They used to do a really good one which did the design of an entire building, but it has been withdrawn.

As for software, there is probably quite a lot of different types on the market, but I have used TEDDS by CSC in the past.

Thanks Ussuri.

Have used CSC's P-Frame in the past and been non plussed, but this looks like something else entirely!

Have tried speaking to Trada, but am still awaiting one of their Structural Engineers to come back to me. Only been 24 hours, and it is a free service to members, but it's a long 24 hours when this is my 4th day in the job!

Thanks again, and accept a star for the helpfull post

Steve

Well you will be happy to know that if you buy a license for TEDDS you get P Frame thrown in for free.  TEDDS is basically and add-in for Microsoft Word.  It allows you to write your own calculations in a similar way to MathCAD only not as functional, but better presented.  The upside is that it comes with a library of standard calculations to all the BS's (8110, 5950, 5628, 5268 and others) which you just run and fill in the blanks (similar to Fitzroys old SCALE package).  Unfortuntely, when I last used it, it wasnt as comprehensive as I would have liked.

I also notice on the bottom left hand side of TRADA's website there is a link to some of their own software.  I've never used it but it might be a useful alternative.

Can I mention our own SuperBeam program - single member analysis of beams and studs. www.sda.co.uk/sbw.htm . Google on BS5268 software will give you a number of other choices too.
