Tall tower anchor chair design

Tall tower anchor chair design

Has anyone ever put anchor bolt chairs on the inside of a skirt for a tall tower?  I have a 154" diameter, 100' tall vessel to be supported on a skirt.  Due to shipping size issues I would like to put the anchor chairs inside the skirt.  Any thoughts?

RE: Tall tower anchor chair design

I have done that several times.  It is not a technical problem.  I assume that you will have an access opening in the skirt!

I've done it on a retrofit basis. Like Steve said, not a big deal assuming you have access. Be sure to check with the structural folks designing the foundation, though. Sometimes they have limits on bolt spacing in the foundation.

Thanks for the replies.  Yes, there will be two access openings.  Structural is also ok with it.  There are no wind loads and the seismic is a zone 1.  Just wanted to check if its been done before, since I found no literature on it.

Thank you for the update, I am in the process of the review this type of design.

Note: the Pressure Vessel Software at present dose not allow the Skirt Base Rind on the Inside.

P.S.: SteveBraune (Structural)& jte (Mechanical), Thank You

Ummm... That's what hand calc's are for. Kinda scary to think how many engineers out there are only as good as the software they use.

RE: Tall tower anchor chair design

When you put the bolts inside, you reduce the bolt circle radius and therefore increase the bolt loads somewhat.  Not a big issue with hand calcs, but does need to be considered in the design.
