Reset project folder name at start of year 2006?

Reset project folder name at start of year 2006?

Reset project folder name at start of year 2006?

(OP)
We started using SolidWorks in February/March of this year.

We store our SW files in project folders--a top-level "Drafting" folder that has subfolders for clients, then for individual projects (and allfiles for a project are in that low-level project folder).

At the start of the new year, we want to start with a fresh (empty) "Drafting" folder.  All projects from 2005 would be in a sort of archive folder.  All I want to do is rename this years "Drafting" folder to "Drafting2005" and create a new "Drafting2006" folder for the new year.  Note that prior to SolidWorks (we used Mechancial Desktop) this new folder would have just been called "Drafting" but I don't want to do that with SW because of references--more on that in the next paragraph.

So, what I think would happen is that by renaming the "Drafting" folder to "Drafting2005" I'd permanently break ALL references within that folder, but that wouldn't be a problem because all files for a project are contained within one folder, and that's the first place SW will look to fix the references.  Do you agree with that?

I know that might be confusing--hopefully I explained adequately.  If you're wondering why I don't use PDM, it's because we're an Engineer-to-order company and it's a little too restrictive for us... I have evaluated it.

Let me know what you think.  Thanks,

Brian

RE: Reset project folder name at start of year 2006?

Providing no references are made to a folder outside of "Drafting", what you suggest should be fine. You are correct, changing the name of the top level folder wil not result in references being lost.
