Standard Holes and Bolts for Assemblies

Standard Holes and Bolts for Assemblies

Standard Holes and Bolts for Assemblies

(OP)
I have used several CAD modeling packages for the last 7-8 years (Pro\E, Wildfire, Solid Edge, SolidWorks).  I have recently been employed by a company that uses UG.  My workstation is in route since I will be at a remote location/office.

My most serious concern is that of standard bolt holes and assembly components (bolts, dowels, pins, etc).  Most mid-range CAD packages include the standard holes for socket head counterbores and countersunk bolts.  I cannot find any indication that NX offers these.  Some insight would be appreciated.

As an added note:  SolidWorks has the best feature for bolting in assemblies, called "Hole Series."  This command makes the clearance hole (choose type), makes the treaded hole (through hole or blind), then inserts the right size standard fastener.  A really incredible tool.

RE: Standard Holes and Bolts for Assemblies

Hole files are in the system that define standard hole sizes and can be modified for your companies use.

Standard hardware is not included. John Baker has a set of fastener files on the BBS that can be downloaded.

UG Consulting Services has a GRIP program that does standard parts.

There are some third-party programs as well.

Where are the standard hole files located for NX3?

Thanks for your response.

RE: Standard Holes and Bolts for Assemblies

In V18 and NX1, they are in the UGII_BASE_DIR\UGII folder.
thd_english.dat and thd_metric.dat

I change the pointer to the files in ugii_env.dat and then copy the thd* files to another folder and modify the copies.

RE: Standard Holes and Bolts for Assemblies

In NX2, we can find the standard threaded holes from feature thread.
Making a standard hole like countersunk or a counterbore is by manualy feeding the parameters in the hole feature.
If there is an another good way to do it, I will be happy to know it.
