Knee bracing in SDC 'C'

Knee bracing in SDC 'C'

(OP)
My question is if I can use knee bracing in SDC 'C'?  I would be using and R=3 (structural steel systems not specifically detailed for seismic).  The knee braces would be used in one direction only with both the brace to beam and brace to column connections being about 5 feet from the beam/column intersection. I have braced frames in the other direction.  I was origionally planning on using moment frames in this direction but my lateral drift is too high.  My building is a 2 story retail building with floor to floor heights of 17'-0".  Thank you in advance.

RE: Knee bracing in SDC 'C'

IBC 1617.6 and ASCE-7 9.5.2.2 do not limit this system for SDC C.  Looks like you can use it.
