cb lift truck
cb lift truck
(OP)
I thought that a cb overhead lifting device, integral with switchgear, lifts the cb out of it's cradle and is then put on a lift truck. I've been informed that a lift truck does the same thing as the overhead lifting device and is not used as a platform for teh CB once out of the cradle.
Can somone unconfuse we about the difference and what a lift truck is used for.
Thanks.

RE: cb lift truck
For medium voltage vacuum breakers, a lift truck is normally used.

You just a way to get the breakers in and out in a safe way.

Lift trucks for LV and MV breakers
Overhead crane (mounted on the switchgear): only for LV breakers.
cvirgil: You need only one of the above not both.
Crane: Once the breaker is hooked on the crane and lifted from the cradle, the cradel is pushed back in the switchgear and the breaker is lowered on the floor or a dolly.
Lift Truck: The same as above except the breaker is lifted up by placing lift arm below the breaker to take off from the cradle.
So when using overhead crane, you do need something with wheels, like a dolly, to transport the breaker to a different location once it is removed . While a lift truck may be moved with the breaker and not needing a dolly per say.
If there is enough headroom, overhead crane is considered a better option, specially with larger breakers (2500A and above).
