Water main design for small subdivision

Water main design for small subdivision

Water main design for small subdivision

(OP)
I am trying to model the water distribution network for a small subdivision and check fire flow pressures, etc.  For the mains that we will be tying into we have the following information at hydrant locations: static pressure, residual pressure, calculated flow, and measured flow at 20 psi.  How do I take that information and use as input it in either Hardy Cross or EPANET to model my system?

RE: Water main design for small subdivision

You can use the data from the hydrant flow test to create a pump curve.  Then you set a reservoir or storage facility at the site of the fire hydrant and place the pump you have created next to the reservoir and connect it with a large pipe to reduce head losses.  From the hydrant you can run a connection to your tie-in point.  You can find the formula to convert the pressure & flow data to a pump curve in AWWA M-17 or in the Haestad Book "Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management."  I believe you can still read it online.  You might also want to get a copy of AWWA M32 "Computer Modeling of Water Distribution Systems". Be aware that the hydrant flow test data represents a system snapshot only and should be balanced against data on what pumps were running, system demands at the time, etc.

Good luck
