convert sketch reference curves to sketch geometry

convert sketch reference curves to sketch geometry

(OP)
Hello, all,
I brought some copy geom surfaces into my part, and then used 'sketch references/X sec' to cut the surfaces.
This results in reference curves in the sketch plane.  Is there a way to now convert the reference curves directly into sketch curves that will define my part?

RE: convert sketch reference curves to sketch geometry

The "Use Edge" tool should do it.. its icon on the sketcher toolbar looks like a stunted "L" shape.

The button in the flyout lets you offset from the referenced edge.

Also look at the 3 options you have: Single, Chain and Loop. Experiment with what they do, and use the one that works the best (I try not to pick individual surface segments, so the chain option usually works best for me)

RE: convert sketch reference curves to sketch geometry

If you want to remove the external references, in Sketcher, just open the Reference dailoge box and delete the external references (you will see a model name next to the reference) and pick new references from the active model.

I tried the 'use edge' tool, but it would not allow picking the X-section curves on the copy geom surfaces.  It would let me pick the edge of the surfaces, but that's not what I need.

RE: convert sketch reference curves to sketch geometry

Before making the sketch, create a datum curve which intersects the plane and the curve (in WF, select the quilt and the plane, and hit Edit-->Intersect), use the same plane to sketch, and then the use edge tool should work (you would only need to choose the new curve as a reference).
