SSLN Connection

SSLN Connection

SSLN Connection

(OP)
Does anybody know what "SSLN" type bolted connection stands for?  "Short slotted......"?

RE: SSLN Connection

It might be "short slotted Normal to direction of load".  My 3rd ed. LRFD uses SSLT - Transverse to direction of load.  The 9th ed. ASD uses N for normal instead of T for transverse.

RE: SSLN Connection

It's not in ASD Table 1-D.

I would interpret it in one of two ways:
1.  Short slotted hole with a 'N' (bearing with threads included in shear plane) type connection.
2.  Short slotted hole normal to the load direction.  Could be a type 'N' or type 'X' connection.

If I had to choose, I'd say #1 as #2 is a stretch.

The full designation is 3/4"dia, A325-N-SSLN. So I think the first N stands for included and the rest must be short slotted direction normal to load.

RE: SSLN Connection

Just a clarification: I always thought X was for excluded and N was for not excluded.  They could be in or out of the shear plane.

Have a nice Holiday.
