Alloy 715 finish

Alloy 715 finish

Alloy 715 finish

(OP)
Hi;

I have almost no experience with material finishes on metal. Our customer needs a finish of 125 microinches (or better) on Alloy 715. This is a 70-30 Copper-Nickel alloy. Does anyone know if that alloy can get that finish, and if so, by what method(s)? Finally, does anyone know any commercial shops that do a good job with this kind of request?

Thanks very much!

Ron

By the way, I know of a variety of means to do this on steel (milling, drilling, sawing, chemical milling, forging), but I mainly need to know whether it can be done on this particular alloy. Thanks!

RE: Alloy 715 finish

This polishes beautifully to an optical finish with Hyprez or Engis Diamond Lapping compound. If you haven't done it before I'd sub- con it though, it's a skilled task.

Alternatively, Single Point Diamond Turning (well, flycutting for flats actualy) will get an optical finish too.

Hope this helps :)
