Primary and secondary injection testing

(OP)
I would be grateful if anyone could point me to any web-sites that have useful information / practical guides to pri and sec injection testing of Ct and relay systems.
Many thanks.

RE: Primary and secondary injection testing

You might start with the manufacturers of injection testing equipment: Omicron and Programma are two that readily spring to mind.

The test requirements are very much dependent on the type of relay. The relay technical guides for commissioning and testing will give some insight into how the methods are applied. Primary injection testing is less common, largely because it can be an awkward test to set up. There has been some discussion here on Eng-Tips about testing differential and REF schemes.

There are some useful links in this thread thread238-105542 The Areva website has many relay manuals plus the NPAG available to download and read.

RE: Primary and secondary injection testing

to test CT strings as a whole, I would simply put current on the CT secondaries in the string. I would put .5 amps on phase A, 1 amp on phase B, and 1.5 amps on phase C. This will check for rolled wires, holes in the circuit, and it will also verify any metering.

Keep in mind this is not a full out functional check of the system or the relays, but it is a useful tool for checking wiring as a whole, and burden.

I use a doble relay test set, Omicron also makes a test set These units are very expensive $60,000 or so. But all you really need to do secondary injection is a current source.
