taking stock of information technology facilities

i have given this project mentioned above, and i would like to know how taking of stock is done generally, the procedure to follow when taking stock and whetever information i would get concerning it

RE: taking stock of information technology facilities

Depends on how much info you want, really. Just finished doing an IT audit at one place, which involved me logging every computer, its specs, what software and all associated peripherals, its physical location and also what network port it was connected to.

Its one heck of a time consuming job.

If this helps, let me know. If i've got the wrong end of the stick (as I frequently do) again, let me know.

as i mentioned before that here  in university im given a project tilted'takling stock of information technology facilities around versity'.iwas just able to collect data but the problem with me now is how to analyse these  data and to coment from them

RE: taking stock of information technology facilities

put the lot into a spreadsheet, wit different colums for the different items of data (memory, processor, OS etc etc) and then use that as a base for reports. you can use that to say how many PC's are under the current minimum spec, which could do with upgrading or being binned.

its not all that difficult, just time-consuming
