WPS & PQR

We have a WPS and PQR for welding 316SS to 316SS.  Can the WPS for 316SS also be used for 321SS and 347SS.  We would be welding the same product - just different grade of material.

Thanks

RE: WPS & PQR

What is the governing standard or specification?

The standard is ASME Section IX Boiler & Pressure Vessel Piping Code.

Thanks

RE: WPS & PQR

donnaj,
what welding process?

RLS

RE: WPS & PQR

The process is GTAW.

RE: WPS & PQR

Yes, for the P-No 8 group material.

RE: WPS & PQR

The PQR can be used to support welding all three alloys.  Generally, you should match the filler metal chemistry to the materials being welded. This can be done by amending your WPS appropriately or creating a new WPS suported by the original PQR.

RE: WPS & PQR

donnaj,
Yes, the PQR can be used with all three alloys as all are P-8 Group 1 materials as covered by QW-403.11 and QW-424.1.
