Toshiba Inverters

Toshiba Inverters

Toshiba Inverters

(OP)
Hi all. Can anyone point me to Toshiba inverter suppliers in the US or Europe for a 200kW drive? My customer has an expansion project and would prefer this manufacturer but I'm having trouble getting a local competitive quote.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

RE: Toshiba Inverters

Suppliers local to where?

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=toshiba+inverter+drive&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB

Pulls up a couple of suppliers in the UK (bottom of first page). Substitute 'variable speed' for 'inverter' for a few more. I haven't trawled them all - that's your job! Using the Google specific to the country you are interested in is a useful trick for finding local suppliers.

You tell 'em Scotty.

TSE = Toshiba Schneider Europe.

Try Schneider. They sell Toshiba as well.

RE: Toshiba Inverters

Generally, my advice would be to find a supplier with a good support staff that is close to the project site. If you just go for any supplier who sells cheap from a warehouse across the world, then when you need something taken care of later, they are nowhere to be found and the local guy is less willing to help because he gets nothing out of the deal except maybe some labor charges.

RE: Toshiba Inverters

Many Toshiba drives in US are available through General Electric via joint venture "GE-Toshiba".

RE: Toshiba Inverters

Not for 200kW, that arrangement is only for medium voltage drives.

RE: Toshiba Inverters

It is not quite right, Jraef. We used 460V/200kW system type TMdrive-10 (GE-TOSHIBA), See details on website www.tmge.com.

RE: Toshiba Inverters

For the USA, go to the horses mouth and check the TIC website: http://www.tic.toshiba.com/
In Europe they put the Toshiba drives business out to distributors rather than keeping the resource in-house. TP Automation are the master distributor in Europe selling the Tosvert (an unfortunate name if I heard one..).
This is for drives upto 280kW or so.

That's quite an expansion project btw, US and Europe!

RE: Toshiba Inverters

Thinker,
Thanks for that, I learn something new every day.

However, can a casual user just call you up and order a Toshiba low voltage 200kW VFD off the shelf out of a catalog? Your comment that I was responding to alluded to that and I thought it needed clarification. If I called up a GE ED&C or GE Supply office anywhere in the US, I CANNOT buy a Toshiba drive as far as I know. It appears to me that you are part of a drives services and engineered systems company that is part owned by GE, but I seriously doubt if the average GE sales office is even aware of your low voltage capabilities. I called the local one here and they said "... only for medium voltage, we have our own line of low voltage drives made by Fuji". Obviously you are technically correct, but someone might get the wrong impression. If I'm wrong, you have a lot of work to do in getting the rest of the GE sales force up to speed.

I think you are correct. The 'casual' user purchasing from GE would be pointed towards the GE-Fuji drives rather than the Toshiba. In an earlier life I worked for Toshiba drives(Europe) and can confirm this. This only effects the USA anyway, in Europe there is no alliance with GE to confuse the issue, they have the alliance with Schneider to do that.

RE: Toshiba Inverters

Fintan's North America link has a typo in it. It should read www.tic.toshiba.com
