Alocrom Chemical Conversion

Alocrom Chemical Conversion

(OP)
I am being told by a senior Airbus Engineer the I must anodise a repair to a fuel system component which I supply. His reason for this is that the Alocrom is not compatible with aviation fuel. I do not believe this for one instance. However I have been informed that I need to use the Aircraft SRM to determine the surface treatment. I have tried to locate Alocrom compatibility charts but have been unsucessful. Can anyone confirm the copatibility issue? Or point me in the direction of such data.

RE: Alocrom Chemical Conversion

Try http://www.loctiteaero.com/index.cfm?ID=170 for further info on chemical conversion coatings (alochrom and alodine are trade names)

Boeing recommends using alodine 600 for fuel tanks and alodine 1200 for everywhere else. I've Alodined repairs in fuel tanks many times.

I've never been able to find out exactly why alodine 600 is prefered in fuel tanks. The only reason that jumps out at me is it's lower electrical resitance.

cheers
PK
