Bogging Down
Bogging Down
(OP)
I'm running SolidWorks 2001 Plus on a notebook computer. My SolidWorks support SolidWorks contract has long since expired.
System specs:
Toshiba C2310 Notebook
Windows XP
2 monitors: built-in notebook display, and 19" external Mag CRT.
Processor: Intel Pentium 1.6 GHz with Centrino
504 MB RAM
max 64 MB vram - auto-configured
SolidWorks runs fine on small assemblies (1 MB top assembly file, 5 MB total files used), but when I load even moderate size assemblies (1.8 MB top assembly file, 16 MB total files used, 175 total components, 129 top level mates), the system seems to choke. It takes up to 30 seconds to implement a new mate. Moves and rotations are greatly delayed, jerky, and erratic. Simple new mates (like making a nut concentric with a bolt) cause conflicts. The only complex surfaces are a few variable radius fillets - otherwise it's all planes, cylinders, cones, and spheres. I donot fully constrain things like nuts and bolts – I let the angular orientation float. SolidWorks is inconsistent about whether components can be moved or not. Etc., etc.
Any ideas on what the problem is? Am I just short on resources? Any ideas for a fix?

RE: Bogging Down
Yes! The biggest single problem will almost certainly be the video card.
Upgrade your computer. Suggest Dell M70 if you want to stay portable & if budget allows.
