Need help with finding electric motors
(OP)
Hello all,
This is my first post on the site. I do consulting work part time for a small company. I must find/create a new design for the orientation of an object. I'm comparing my research on different types of motors. I'm having trouble finding sites with great electric motors to do a simple task. This is my first time working on a project involving motors. Any help would be great.
Description & background:
Need a type of electric motor that is best for moving a 5000 pound metal object from the vertical to horizontal position and vice versa. The position changes will not be constant and will only occur when needed (no more than 30 position changes per day). Purchase price is not a big issue but looking for low repair costs, low maintenance cost, low motor failure rate, and high efficiency rate.
Has anyone here ever worked with electric motors or any sites they recommend?
Thanks

RE: Need help with finding electric motors
Do you have 3 phase available?
What voltage?
Do you need a brake system included?
How fast does it have to change position?
From what you've described I'd assume you'd want to use hydraulics.

But with my luck, I'll be at the airport!

We would need more information to determine what motor would be best for your application.
How fast does the object need to move?
How fast does the object accelerate?
How accurate does the position need to be?
Is the position controlled by feedback?
What are the physics of the load?
Is the load balanced, all inertia?
Where is the pivot in relation to center of gravity?
Do you really need high efficiency with the low duty cycle?
