Hydraulic Cylinder Standards

Hydraulic Cylinder Standards

(OP)
Group,

Is there a recognized standard for the design of large hydraulic cylinders such as are used in forging and injection molding presses?

The ASME Section 8 does not seem to be applicable to these cylinders.  Especially the ones that are manufactured from ductile iron.  There seems to be no allowance made for stress concentrations developed at oil drain holes or support flanges integral to the casting.  The same holds true for cylinders manufactured from steel forgings.

Any info or advice pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks
