Updating 2005 Toolbox

Updating 2005 Toolbox

Updating 2005 Toolbox

(OP)
We have added our own company-specific descriptions and part numbers to our 2005 toolbox so we can insert bolts and other hardware and have our descriptions show up on the BOMs. We are trying to move to SW2006, but are having trouble converting the toolbox.

If we just point 2006 to the old 2005 toolbox via the toolbox.ini file, we get an incompatible version error. We were told that the only ways to convert were to:
A. Re-enter the customized information in the 2006 toolbox that was created at the "new install" of 2006, or
B. Do an "upgrade" install of 2006, which would upgrade the toolbox to the 2006 format/version.

The first option is pretty lame - something we could look forward to every year. If we upgrade, then we lose our 2005 installation which we may need to fall back on in case of unexpected problems like these. So, we'd prefer to do new installs, but may need to do an upgrade just to accomodate the toolbox. Does anyone know of any other ways to fix my toolbox?

RE: Updating 2005 Toolbox

That's because you have to install SW06 and point it to the SW05 TB location so it will update the TB files. You can't just switch all your seats to the TB directory and expect it to work. It has to be updated like everything else does.

Don't do a SW06 upgrade from SW05. Do a new install of SW06, but when you are optioned to give a path change the name of SW06 to something like "Solidworks06" and change the location of the TB path to the default location of the TB now. Its OK to upgrade the TB, just not SW.

Read the STOP Read This First paper you get with your CD's. It will give you more info on SW06 install. Also there are upgrade instructions at the SW website if you have questions abotu this.

RE: Updating 2005 Toolbox

we just upgraded and everything seems fine except for the fact that I now don't have a toolbox folder in the vaultfile listing. Models are accessing the toolbox fine, but the reference folder that was in the vault file structure has gone away???
Any thoughts, do I need to reset something??
