2.5 Sch40 C-22 Sufficently Strong as 2.2m Dip Pipe?

2.5 Sch40 C-22 Sufficently Strong as 2.2m Dip Pipe?

2.5 Sch40 C-22 Sufficently Strong as 2.2m Dip Pipe?

(OP)
Hi,
I am going to install a 2.2m long 2.5" Sch40 C-22 dip pipe in a 6000L vessel. Will this be sufficently stong for this application?

Thanks

RE: 2.5 Sch40 C-22 Sufficently Strong as 2.2m Dip Pipe?

Sufficiently strong in what sense?  Able to support it's own weight?

More details please.  How do we know what dimensions the 6000 L vessel are?  How do we know where the dip leg is relative to the rest of the vessel?

RE: 2.5 Sch40 C-22 Sufficently Strong as 2.2m Dip Pipe?

There must be some reason for your concern.
Is this perhaps a reactor with a big mixer that handles viscous liquid or dense slurries?

Thanks for the replies.
The vessel handles 6000L of a moderatley dense slurry.
The pipe will be in an area of mixing, turblence from all directions.
My question is will this pipe be able to withstand the mixing forces within this vessel(generally speaking)
Thanks

RE: 2.5 Sch40 C-22 Sufficently Strong as 2.2m Dip Pipe?

C-22's pretty strong- safe allowable stress in tension ~ 25ksi at room temp- so the pipe itself is going to be quite strong.  I'd be more worried about the vessel's nozzle that the dip pipe would be inserted through and its ability to handle the moment and vibration that this dip pipe might load it with.  The problem will be fatigue from vibration rather than pure bending.

Moltenmetal is right on.  The pipe will take the load but it is very hard on the nozzle.  Reinforce the nozzle with gussets if possible.  I would also suggest reducing the diameter of the pipe to 1.5in.   That would reduce the stress on the nozzle a small amount.

Kilo..

The suitability of a dip-pipe within a tankk/vessel depends on how it is guided/supported.

2.5 inch pipe is very strong when "simply supported" ( supported in short multiple spans) It may fail if loaded as a "cantilever" ( like a flagpole)....

Can you tell us more about how it is supported within the tank ?
