Creating a Rolled Channel in sheet metal

Creating a Rolled Channel in sheet metal

I need to replicate a rolled channel in sheet metal mode.  Currently, we create sm channels and roll them to create curves in our conveyors.  I have been struggling to find a way to make this happen in inventor.  Any advice?

RE: Creating a Rolled Channel in sheet metal

If I interpret you right, you take flat plate, press it up into a channel section, then roll the straight channel pressing into a curve. (We do the same thing sometimes).

If the above is correct then you can't create the rolled channel pressing in Inventor as this means you are deforming the straight pressing when you roll it and Inventor won't deform.  (unless anyone else knows better).

RE: Creating a Rolled Channel in sheet metal

Does it need to be done in sheetmetal? Using the std solids mode would be a piece of cake (of course you couldn't make a flat since IV can't deform as Peter stated).

RE: Creating a Rolled Channel in sheet metal

For modelling the finished part then as DesignerMike says it's easy enough to make as a solid.  Create the 2D drawing of the finished part and tell manufacturing it's a rolled, pressed channel (and they can use their experience to make it).
