Pulley rating

(OP)
If a single rope pulley is wll (working load limit) rated for 100 lbs., can that pulley lift 100 lbs. or only 50 lbs.?

Because: If the pulley is fixed above the weight to be lifted, the total downward force on the pulley (and overhead mounting) will be the weight lifted, plus the (equal) weight of the downward force exerted on the other end of the rope; that is, 200 lbs. total.

What I'm seeking, therefore, is a definition of pulley wll.

Thanks,
Lawrence

RE: Pulley rating

My guess would be 100 total, so the pully bearings see only 100 lbs no matter how it's arranged.
