Graphics Card Driver confusion

Graphics Card Driver confusion

Graphics Card Driver confusion

(OP)
I RECENTLY HAD AN NVIDEA FX540 INSTALLED ON MY SYSTEM.  THE MOST RECENT DRIVER AVAILABLE (7756) IS LISTED AS HAVING "LIMITATIONS", WHILE THE LAST ONE (7184) IS LISTED AS "PASSED ALL".  I KNOW THE RULE-OF-THUMB IS TO ALWAYS USE THE LATEST DRIVER BUT THE LIMITATIONS THING KINDA MAKES ME WONDER.  WHAT DO I DO?
ALSO, OTHER THAN "APPLICATION SETTINGS" BEING SET TO SOLIDWORKS (GOT IT COVERED), ARE THERE ANY OTHER SETTINGS I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT?

The latest driver is not always the best.  You should visit the SW website and use the recommended driver listed for your card.

If you are having trouble with graphics now, you can always try to change Tools>Options>System Options>Performance to run in Software OpenGL mode.  If that fixes any limitations, then you should look at a different driver.

Have you read FAQ731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

RE: Graphics Card Driver confusion

1) PLEASE DON'T SHOUT ... turn your caps off. It is much easier to read.

2) The two 7756 drivers listed as "having limitaions" are for the Windows XP x64 edition with SW05 & SW06.

3) The 7756 driver listed as passed is for SW06 only & for the "64 bit native support". Whatever that means???

So unless you have XPx64 or "64 bit native", stay with the 7184.
