Limiting bolt length selection

Limiting bolt length selection

Limiting bolt length selection

Where do I go to change the amount of available bolt lengths in the toolbox (and even what bolts)?

I wanna limit what is available to choose from, since they have every size under the sun

thanks in advance,

RE: Limiting bolt length selection

You'll have to create you own derived standard (Tools/Options/Edit Data I think)Once you've copied a standard, you can exclude sizes from the list.

FAQ559-1183

I will have images in the FAQ as I get a chance to upload them to my site. But until then the steps I think are pretty easy to follow.

Thanks Guys!

I must say it's a tedious process. I'm only 'disabling' exisitng data, but the UI is a bit un-friendly.

Once I'm done, how do I propogate this new standard to multiple computers?

RE: Limiting bolt length selection

If I understand you correctly... Don't disable the existing DB's that SW sends you, make your own DB.

No worries,

I made a copy based on Ansi, and I'm just disabling the stuff I don't need.

Hmmm,

I've been able to do what I want, but I'm not sure how it works. lemme explain.

I made a new design standard based on Ansi, and called it our company name (lets use XYZ).

I then went and 'disabled' various nuts, bolts, etc from the standard.

SW created a folder called XYZ in the 'common files' area of my program files, but it only contains part files and a couple bitmaps.

Where does it keep the 'disabled' info?

I may need to back track a bit, and make my own .mdb file, and somehow load that.

RE: Limiting bolt length selection

It's all saved within the *.mdb file. If you edit that file you are and will be outside of your maintainence as SW will not support you if you mess with that file. As they cannot be held responsible for someone editing that file.

You can get back to and enable the item very quickly...

Go back to the same location that you did to create the DB.

"Edit standards Data" and uncheck "Disable".

That's it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Scott, greatly appreciated.

I don't want to edit the ansi.mdb, but would like to create a xyz.mdb, and call that up in the toolbox, but I don't see how as of yet.

The reasoning behind this is so I can 'give' the xyz.mdb to outside designers, to pull from.

RE: Limiting bolt length selection

That's what I am saying you can't do that. SW uses the swbrowser.mdb. You cannot make your own as SW will not see it, not can you give it a path to find it.

You can make a copy of the swbrowser.mdb, but be aware SW nor your VAR will support you if you mess with that file. If that was to cause an issue then it would be beyond their control and that is why you will not be supported.

thanks Scott,

I understand now.

A shame really, perhaps soon we can add our own dbs
