Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

(OP)

I am reading Help - Linking Notes to Document Properties.

Quote:

You can link a note to the properties of the model shown in the drawing (the SW-File Name property, for example, or a user-defined custom property in the model document).

The SW-File Name property exists and when I write in a note $PRP:"SW-File Name" it correctly displays the file name under which the dwg has been saved.

My question is: Where do I find the list of those "standard" SW properties ? When I pull down "File" -> "Properties" there is nothing like that either in "Property Name" nor in "Value/Text Expression".

Yet misteriously (at least to me) that "SW-File Name" (and probably others) exist somewhere.

RE: Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

Search in the help for properties.

Do a search in the help menu for "SW-"
Also search for "Summary of Design Table Parameters"

The help menu is a wonderful thing...

Create/Edit a note, in the Property Mananger, there is an icon in the middle with a chain link which will lead you to the properties dialogue. From there you can link to properties in the drawing file(current), or to the attached model file. You should see the file properties and Solidworks properties you can link to.

Thanks for all the replies – FANTASTIC !!

Now, the “SW-Created Date” produces date AND the time (to a second). Nothing wrong with that, in fact in many situations the time “stamp” is desirable.

But if I would like to have JUST THE DATE when the dwg was FIRST CREATED, the time stamp becomes a nuisance.

Is there a way to “blank off” or “cover up” the display of  hr:min:sec  on a dwg sheet ??

I can not use the “SW-Long Date” nor the “SW-Short Date” because as I know it keeps on changing. Unless of course there was a way to somehow “capture” the “SW-Long Date”/“SW-Short Date” and then “freeze” it.

RE: Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

No way to capture the creation date, though it could done through a macro and then assigned to a property. Then you link the note to that property.

There are several custom property programs floating around. see links below for macros, etc.

RE: Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

We use "PropertyEditorSpec" from http://webpages.charter.net/mkikstra/SWX-macros.html because it is the only FREE property tool that lets you easily add "Configuration Specific" properties.  All of our properties are Configuration Specific, just in case we have to add a configuration later.  We had the same problem with the creation date, so we added a custom  property called "Modeled Date" that is used on the drawing.

RE: Where do I find "SW-File Name" and other properties

You could have used the Configuration Specific's pre-existing, DrawnDate or DateCompleted properties.

I believe, the above is "manual". What I wanted is to be "automatic"
