Codes and Standards that govern Offshore Platforms

Can someone explain the standards and codes that influence the operation of offshore Platforms?   I am introducing a new product to the offshore platform business and need to know if DNV or ABS certification (or both) is required for this product.  I have been told DNV affects certain sections of the platform while ABS affects others.  Any help is appreciated. -awol

RE: Codes and Standards that govern Offshore Platforms

The DNV or ABS "standards and codes" are principally aimed at the design and construction of substructures and topside facilities.  They dwell very superficially upon actual operational aspects.  By "certification" for your product, it is taken to mean certifying authority approval.  Take a look at this web page to see what this actually means to DNV:

Thanks, Steve, for the website reference.  If I were break down the area of use for my product, it would be primarily for use on pipelines and piping above the waterline. Not to include risers at this time.  I want to avoid the expense of the DNV certification and approval only to find out that there are certain sections of the platform, topside or substructure,  that are controlled by the ABS agency only.  One of the concerns about my product is its fire-retardant characteristics.  I would like to have it certified as acceptable to use on any piping on the platform. Thanks, Awol
