Detention Pond Outflow Pipes

Detention Pond Outflow Pipes

Detention Pond Outflow Pipes

(OP)
Hello all: I need some help with designing the outflow pipes of a detention pond.
The situation is that the pond has two outflow pipes draining into two different wetland systems.
I am used to designing just 1 outflow pipe and an emergency spillway, this pond has 2 pipes and 1 emergency spillway.
What would be the best approach to the design of these pipes? According to the town the pipes should be designed for the 10-yr storm.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Use software like Hydraflow Hydrographs that can do this calculation for you in seconds.

RE: Detention Pond Outflow Pipes

It depends on the outcome your are looking for.  If you need 50/50 split or ?, preliminarily size your culverts based on your allowable headwater in your pond. Then create a rating curve for each including the spillway.  Combine all into one curve and model the storage pond. once you have a final headwater in the pond use you individual rating curves to get the split.

It is not that diff from a single outlet.

Good Luck!
