Solenoid Operated Grease Valve for Exp. Proof environment
Solenoid Operated Grease Valve for Exp. Proof environment
(OP)
I'm looking to purchase a solenoid operated grease valv for a central lube system in the coal handling area of one of our plants. This valve is used to vent the system pressure after the injectors lubricate the system. The system vendor (Lincoln) have been unresponsive and unable to provide a proper valve. They supplied us with a valve mean for hydraulic fluid that worked fine. For about 3 weeks.....
Our area is classified Class 1, Div. 2, Group F which causes some problems.
The max grease pressure is 3000 psi.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Suggestions?

Here a couple of other sources of lubrication equipment that I have used in the past.
The first system is a vent controller that has worked well in two applications that I am familiar with.
The second system is the Trabon system of which we have numerous applications.
The third is general supply house for lubrication equipment that might have the answer.

BSQUA..., my application is grease, not hydraulic oil. The higher viscosity fluid makes it more difficult for the valve we have to close against pressure, I suspect another hydraulic oil valve will have the same issues.

Unless there is dirt in the grease there shouldn't be a problem. Being a lubrication system I doubt there is any grease. The differential pressure (force), the valve size (area), and seat material (friction cooeffient) are normally the factors that effect an automated valve assembly's performance. The other thing that can effect valve seat life is how fast or slow the valve is opened and closed. During the partially open position the seat can see erosion. The faster the cycle the better.
In reviewing one of the links someone sent you however it looks like my understanding of your application is a little off. A 2" valve might be a little big for your needs. Ha! Ha! A 1/4" valve might be better if you want to pipe it up, but you still need compressed air.
Another company you might try is Circle Seal Controls. Their SV400 SERIES 2 and 3 way solenoid valves are rated to 6000psig. The coil is Explosion Proof Per MIL-STD-810B. I have no idea what that means in coal dust. Good Luck
