creating a 3d model from 3d points
creating a 3d model from 3d points
(OP)
Hi, i apologise if this is a really simple question but i am new to AutoCAD 3D. I have a CAD drawing that is constructed of 3d points, i want to put this into 3ds max so i can render/animate the model. The problem is the drawing has no surfaces only points so when it is rendered in either CAD or max there is nothing to show. Is there a way I can create a 3D solid out of a drawing of 3D points and if so how can i do it? any help will be hugely appreciated

Excellent answer- That's the same thing I'd have said.
James-
Not all ACAD 3D has to be solids (unless you expect to have to project the 3D to 2D take-off views for shop details) Surfaces is a STRONG yet often overlooked "facet" of ACAD 3D. There are some auto-interperetation programs that will take your points and convert them to surfaces, but some of them are a bit pricey. Use "surface" 3D faces, surface meshes, etc. based on your point cloud, and you should get a usable result. If you have a true "wireframe" model, you'll still have to cover it like the canvas example given by taffcad, but there you might have the information you need to create a true solid model by hand based on the shapes in your wireframe.
Good luck!
