Changing Job

Changing Job

(OP)
My desire to earn more salary  made me land in Middle East leaving back my job in R & D of a manufacturing company in India where I worked for 2 years. The job I got here is in the Sales field which was very new for me but I took a chance......Being in Sales one deserves to be more aggressive and shrewd....which I am not..
Having spent almost 15 months here, I feel, should I continue in this field, improve Sales skills and build up my career or go back to pure Engineering side.
Thanks.

I am a firm believer in doing what you are good at and where your heart leads you.  I am an older engineer and over the years have seen many, many people who begin to dislike their jobs and way of life but think they are stuck since they make fairly decent money.
My opinion and what I tell my daughters is to pick the field that you have a passion for; regardless what it is then you will do good in that field and the money will follow.
I believe a person who follows his passion will be far happier; financially and personally.

RE: Changing Job

wot he said.

If you are truly blessed, you'll have a job that you'll leap out of bed for every morning to get to work.  You'll be thinking about how solve interesting problems while in the shower.  The compensation, is just that, it's icing on the cake.  You'll feel good about yourself and your life and you'll treat your wife and family better.

To be stuck in a drudge job is to bring misery to yourself and others around you.  You'll come home in a sour mood, kick the dog, etc.

RE: Changing Job

1.  What do you want to do ?
2.  What can you afford to do ?

Sometimes, (many may disagree with me) when you want to achieve something, you have to forego something else.  Not always, but sometimes.  You want to earn money - so you are forced to do something you don't like.  If the need for money is fulfilled (does it ever happen !!!???), then go back and do what you like most.

One of my seniors once told me - If you don't get what you like, try liking what you get !!!

Good luck

RE: Changing Job

Shiju,

Being in sales is building skills which is adding another tool in your engineering tool box (listening & communication skills).  But if it's tolerating a dead-end job this can take a huge toll on your health and happiness.  I believe training in sales especially dealing with the end user of the you may manufacture some day is valuable experience.  Best of luck.
