Catia.model to SW

(OP)
Anybody know how I can open a Catia .model into SolidWorks (an imported body would be perfect)? I have a need to bring in a customers' file solely for the purpose of subtracting it from a SW model to build a nesting tool.

I've tried a .STEP file but didn't get anything usable. I also tried a generic conversion package that I downloaded from the Internet but got a bunch of unique surfaces that weren't associated. Tried to fix them in SolidWorks but the gaps were too wide for SW to repair.

Any suggestions would be a big help. Thanks - Dave

RE: Catia.model to SW

You have to convert the Catia model to Parasolid Binary and then open it in Slwds.  I used to get models like that from the customer, but beware that some of the dimensions are out of specs.  It is advisable to check with the customer data beforehand if you need to create a custom part out of it.

RE: Catia.model to SW

You have to buy the Catia Translator. This is much easier in getting your models from one to the other... but it's not cheap.

If you don't do a lot of catia then it's not worth it. You would be better off sending it out to a 3rd party.

I've successfully used PS-Exchange from http://www.delcam.com/.  You can pay per translation and at the time was around 65 dollars.
