Slow dwt rebuit

Does any one have any good tip to speed up the rebuilt process for large assembly in dwt.  My drawing takes about 1 minute or more to regenerate and it kills me every time I have to do any additional command, many times I have to give up and use old reliable AutoCAD instead.

RE: Slow dwt rebuit

"dwt" ???  Do you mean SolidWorks ".slddrw" drawing files?

What are your SW version, service pack, system specs?

Have you tweaked SWs Large Assy options?

Are you working over a network?

How large is large?

I am working from the local file using sw2004, with large assembly mode setting, running on a Pentium 4, 3.2 gigz. The slddrw file including 5 pages of drawing views, derived from the assembly of about 250 MBytes... It's running so slow that I can not get any productivity out it.  In fact it feels like downloading a file using a slow dial up connection.  It's bad.

RE: Slow dwt rebuit

You need to go through the FAQ and be sure you do all the maintainence stuff.

Clean temps etc...

Go to Assembly statistics and tell us the numbers.

The assembly contains 1200 parts and 94 subassemblies.  I am
able to speed it up a bit after some file cleaning and reorganizing mate properties.  My problem still is the fact that sw  has to rebuilt after every move, and at times it feels like driving though the freeway during traffic hour.  It would be great if sw can just disconnects from continuously updating while allowing the view to be worked on.

RE: Slow dwt rebuit

That still isn't all. How many top level mates?

See FAQ559-871

Have you done this recently - FAQ559-884
What kind of video card - even though it maybe approved, doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to run that big of an assembly.

RE: Slow dwt rebuit

And how many unique parts?

When getting into an assembly this size, you need to start considering simplified configurations of your parts and assemblies.

So in essense, for complex parts, create a derived config that has cosmetic features like fillets and chamfers suppressed. For sub-assemblies, create derived configs with parts such as fasteners suppressed.

Most the time, at the top level, this detail isn't needed.

When I opened the drawing assy from my home computer (AMD64 2Gigz, 128 ATI), it takes less than a second to rebuild.  I think the main problem could be the graphic card and among other thing like simplifying parts, mate properties, and assembly levels.... This is a good lesson for me.  Thanks.
