controlling where shadows falls

(OP)
solidworks 2005

When turn on shaded w/ shadows shadow falls appears some arbritrary distance from the model.
Can this distance be controlled?
How is solidworks deciding how far away to put shadow?

RE: controlling where shadows falls

The location is a standard distance below the part which is lowest in the Y direction.

In an assembly, shadow distance can be controlled by inserting a dummy part which contains a hidden solid body.  Move this part to the required position in the Y direction to control shadow placement.

RE: controlling where shadows falls

You don't say which version your using, but in 2006 if you hide the dummy part, the shadow "snaps" to the lowest shown part.  If you turn the shadows off, rotate the part (side is facing up for example), and turn the shadows back on, the shadow will be on the side facing the bottom of the screen.
