RE: Solidworks viewer 2006 cause blue sceen

In my experience, the Blue Screen of Death is almost always caused by an unsupported video card or an unsupported video driver.  Have you checked those against the list on the SolidWorks website?

RE: Solidworks viewer 2006 cause blue sceen

What is the *.dll file that is causing the BSOD? This will help you and us to determine the problem. Write down all the data and post it here. I'm sure any of us here can tell you once you post that.

(OP)
Thanks.

We restored windows to a previous date and that fixed it.

?????

Weird a.

Thanks again

RE: Solidworks viewer 2006 cause blue sceen

That means the problem may  have been caused by an update made after the restore date. Which also could mean that when your system receives further updates, the problem may re-surface.

If it does, do as Scott suggests & write down the error message portion which should look something like:-
STOP: 0x0000004e (0x00000099, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
You can then "Google" with those numbers & usually find a cause along with a suggested fix.

If allowed to, the Windows/Microsoft Update tool will update video drivers & monitor/display files. It pays to not trust  the update tool & veto the suggested updates before allowing the tool to install them.

Yes. I think it was an update error.

This has now been disabled :)

Thanks

RE: Solidworks viewer 2006 cause blue sceen

Hmmm ... I would not recommend disabling the automatic update.  The updates do  include many necessary fixes & security patches.

I use the Notify me but don't automatically download or install them setting, so that I can select which update to receive.

Opps.

It has now been adjusted.

1000 thanks

RE: Solidworks viewer 2006 cause blue sceen

CBL,

At the bottom near that Hexidecimal it will usually list the file that caused the issue. The most important thing IMO and what I find most useful is that file itself. That file can tell me more about what crashed then the Hexidecimal ever will.

So if any of you ever get a BSOD, get the Hexidecimal, but also get that file that caused the error. If you don't know what it is, then run a Google search on it.
