How to retain points on curves during modifications?

How to retain points on curves during modifications?

How to retain points on curves during modifications?

(OP)
Here's one of my biggest beef about UG since I've been using it.  When I place a point on a curve - whether it's at the end points, intersecting another entity, or at some ratio - the points do not stay with the curve when the curve is modified.  The point just stays at its original spot.  This makes surface modeling and part revisions very difficult because I have to edit every child feature downstream because they lose their references to those points.  Is there a way to place these points so they are parametric?

Thanks.

RE: How to retain points on curves during modifications?

NX3 lets you place associative points.  Now only if they would let us add associative point sets, my life would be much easier.

RE: How to retain points on curves during modifications?

I'm curious as to what features you are tying to points.
Maybe there is a better way to get the same end result with less edits.

I have other curves attached to the points which help me define the surface more accurately.  Here's a simplistic example off the top of my head:
I have 2 parallel curves and at each end of the curve is an arc section connecting them.  Now I put a .25 U parameter point on the parallel curves.  I then put a different arc section connecting the new points.  If I move the parallel curve farther apart, non of the section arcs or points move with it.  I have to edit each of the arc sections every time the parallel curves are modified.  Anyway to make them always attached?

nx3 has that functionality....finally.  If you choose, you can create associative lines, arcs, or points.  I haven't found out how to make it work with splines though....don't think it will.

Take care....

Actually, we just found in NX2 sketch mode, you can add associative points.  But it's in sketch mode only.  I'll have to try this to see if it really works.

Thanks all.

yeah....for 3 they integrated that functionality into modelling.  I'd hate to be using sketches to define any complex surfaces....lol.

Take care....
