Solid edge and Oracle

Solid edge and Oracle

Solid edge and Oracle

(OP)
Hi

My boss recently advised me that we are changing our database software to Oracle. Also he is asking me to connect solid edge to it. Since I don't know Oracle I would like to know if it's possible and what it takes to accomplish it.

We are using SE V17.

Thanks in advance.

Patrick

RE: Solid edge and Oracle

Nope.

All the tools built into solid edge for file management are based on SQL.

What exactly is he trying to connect?

RE: Solid edge and Oracle

If the calls built in to SE are ALL SQL, then it should be possible to redirect them from Insight to Oracle. With talk of UGS replacing Insight with TeamCenter (Oracle-based) Express, it should be doable.

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

We would like to be able to export bills of materials from solid edge into the database in order for the buyer to proceed with the purchase of the materials, hardware and things like that.

I'm not familiar with the programming side of this so is there a simple solution or I need some third party to do this.

Thanks

Patrick

RE: Solid edge and Oracle

Ben,

Team Center Express is not able to communicate with a variety of databases like Team Center Engineering or Enterprise.  That is one of the Express enhancements to make it easier to use/install/get started right away.  Team Center Express only works with SQL.

Having said that, and to comment on your latest post, Patrick, there are several SE users who have written custom API (programs) to pull the BOM data from SE and convert it to an ERP system, often running on Oracle.  There is also a more manual way of exporting the BOM as a text document and then importing that into your database.
