In Fred Terman's book on Radio Engineering, there's a section on the inverse operation of vacuum tubes.

This means that you use the grid as the anode and the anode as the grid...

Weird.

I've never seen it referred to anywhere else.

Has anyone ever encountered this peculiar design technique?

Never seen that used in a practical circuit. But seen the principle mentioned and there was even a parameter for the anode's influence on the cathode-to-grid current. It was "Durchgriff" which is German and that could probably be translated into "Reach-through". It is possible that I saw this together with a high-frequency triode configuration with a grounded grid - the so called "Cascode".

It will probably work only with triodes.

Didn't Lee de Forest experiment with dual anodes before he had the bright idea to put a control electrode (the Grid) between cathode and anode?
