Angular dimensions and bent text

Angular dimensions and bent text

Angular dimensions and bent text

(OP)
I have some geometry that is very crowded and i am trying to dimension some of the angles as well as some wall thicknesses. By changing the setting on the bent leader options in document properties i can get the wall dimension to appear as i would like them, however my angular dimension suck. Is there a way to better dimensions angles. Any suggestions or methods used are greatly appreciated. Thanks

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

As far as I know, you are stuck with the way SW handles angles. Unless they changed in 2006.

area of interest is in circle

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

SO that's the dims for a rim! hee hee
I would make a detail view of the area at a larger scale then you will have room for angles.
There are other area of the dwg I would change also, but I'm not your checker.

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

I think what you are looking for is in Tools-Document properties- Dimensions- Then click on "Leaders..." Here you can overide the default dimensioning styles.

Hope this helps you. Also I agree with ctopher on making a detail view so that the print is clearer to read.

Well actually there is slightly more dimensions than that required to make a rim. At least ones of other sizes.

I would prefer to not have to make a detail view if possible. The drawing has alot of room and i would like to take advantage of that. Detail views get lost by those who do not understand. I am more curious of what others have done if they have created macros, favorites, used text other stuff like that. Having used autocad and proe the angular stuff just has alot more options. Solidworks does not.

Unfortuantly we don't have a checker everything is a fire drill, besides no-one looks at the drawing anyways. i do everthing based upon the "make it look like this method".

Anyways help is appreciated.

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

If no one looks at the dwgs anyway, what's the point of spending time making an angle look good?
IMO, everyone should create dwgs per drafting stds if they like it or not. If no one can understand a detail, they shouldn't be in the business.

Well the phrase no-one looks at the dwg is more from a disgruntled aspect. People do unfortunatly those loking often lack the knowledge to understand what they are looking at. Maybe it is a format issue or hiring issue. Either way standards are nice to have and work from but if the effort of creating is lost by the lack of competance to understand then were do we begin. Anyways i could ramble on for days but i still am curious how other deal with the angle things.

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

I understand.
I still think the best way is to create detail views.

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

If you get the shoulder (bent leader) on the Dimension you should only have to highlight it and click the square next to or on the shoulder to have to go the opposite direction.

Thanks to all the suggestions. If the values of the angles are merely a reference thing since most of the parts are cut on nc machines you can create annotaions and link the values of the angles and hide the original dimensions. The nice thing is that if the model changes the notes update as well. Kinda of a workaround for cluttered area. Not really a standard way of doing things but helps to eliminate detail views. Woke up at night with that thought.

RE: Angular dimensions and bent text

Use should always dim to a hard surface for angles, not hidden lines. This can be confusing for machinists and inspection.
