Dear Expert,

A steam duct of Dia 2800mm is subjected to full vaccum. The duct starts from the turbine exhaust and goes to the air cooled condenser. From the turbine the duct drops for a height of 4M and takes a right angle turn, where it is supported to the ground.

We are connecting a simple axial bellow/Expansion joint after the turbine.
1.what is the amount of vacuum thrust tat wil be acting?

2.Where this will be acting?

3.The fondation should be designed for what load?

4. Will the vacuum load act on the joint of the turbine nozzle and bellow.

Your replies required urgently.

You should NOT be attempting this job without the services of an (on-site or contract) HVAC engineer.

It would probably not be wise for myself (or others) to try to answer such a question without seeing the specific situation.  Too many 'small' factors could have a big effect upon the issue.

I fully approve Curmudgeon's position: it's really surprising that a modification that will imply a thrust of many thousands of tons is handled in this simplistic way.
Be really careful: I've seen much smaller pipes where inexperienced people where placing bellows and when they saw the pipe go it's own way during the hydrotest, they reported it was because of the heating due to the sun!
